RAUM41 Line-up
bass:.Frank    keys:.Dirot    drums:.Yeti    guitars:.Tom    vocals:.Franzie

Founded in in the year 2ooo, the band from Leipzig appeared in 2oo6. This line up exists since 2oo8. The five band members come from the alternative scene and found their idols in that musical spectrum. Thus, their songs create a symbiosis of 80s Wave and modern Indierock.

RAUM41 draw a bow from gloomy hymns over melancholic rhythms to catchy pop songs. A remarkable voice puts a spell on the listener. In August 2oo6, the demo EP was recorded. In November 2008, the first longplayer was released. At Leipzig's Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2o1o, the band presented their Crescendo Moon EP. Currently, new songs are created.

Band history - written by Thomas

It all began with an absurd idea in Autumn 2000 in Leipzig, Germany. Knüpfi did play drums since a few weeks while I was able to play the famous three chords on my guitar. And we knew that Frank always wanted to put hisself to a test on the bass. Spontaneously, we met for the first rehearsal in Knüpfi's living room and just started, despite hardly any musical knowledge. Later, we had a damp rehearsal room in the youth centre Mühlholz. A short time later, Heiko joined us with his long experience on the guitar and some first songs were created, like the early versions of "Arctic Sky" and "Direction". Dorain, the former front lady of the band FormFleisch, took over the part on the microphone but left us again after a short collaboration for being able to concentrate completely on her musical work with FormFleisch. Nevertheless, further songs were created.

In May 2002, we had our first appearance at the birthday party of Heiko in the staircase of a house-building in Leipzig-Connewitz with this line-up: Heiko - vocals/guitar; Thomas - guitar; Frank - bass; Knüpfi - drums. Shortly after this event, Knüpfi went away for personal reasons. The search for a new drummer turned out to be not so easy. Axel, the brother of Heiko, helped out for a few times and finally became a member of the band.

In March 2oo3, Nicci took over the mic and some more songs were created. But the next relapse followed with the departure of Heiko and Axel in September 2oo3. But we did not let us get discouraged and after Knüpfi had found back to us we went on with this line-up: Nicci - vocals; Thomas - guitar; Frank - bass; Knüpfi - drums. Unfortunately, there were no live appearances over that period. Because of personal differences, Knüpfi left us again in 2oo4 and in spring 2oo5, Nicci went away. But Frank and I did not want to give up that easy and so we persuaded Knüpfi to work with us again in June 2oo5.

This was the real hour of RAUM41's birth as we finally could agree upon the band name after a long search. Since then, we rehearsed regularly in Leipzig's Villa with this line-up: Thomas - guitar; Frank - bass; Knüpfi - drums. The very first gig with this three-men-line-up on stage could be seen in Leipzig's UT Connewitz in April 2oo6 at the "We Make Dach" benefit.

In May 2oo6, we found Franzie as the perfect vocal complement for our band. In August of this year, we could finally move into our new rehearsal room, a former heating plant. The recordings for our first 4-track-demo EP were also made there and can be downloaded completely from our website. Our first appearances with the current line-up - Franzie - vocals; Thomas - guitar; Frank - bass; Knüpfi - drums - took place at the "Schwarzlicht-Festival III" (Leipzig's Villa) and at the "Ice Age Festival I" (Reduit Mainz, Germany).

From January 2oo7, we were supported by the talented Mario on the keys and created new songs with him - made a lot of band photos thanks to Flamisol and played gigs with him in Leipzig's Noch Besser Leben, once more in Leipzig's Villa and in Jena's Café Wagner. Soon, we wanted to record. But then, Mario left this world three days after the last gig. Thus, we lost a great part of our music and a good friend.

To find the way back to the rehearsals room was very difficult. Not until Autumn 2007, the four of us stood on stage again at the "Schwarzlicht-Festival IV", at the "Outsider Party" (B58 Braunschweig) and at the "Ice Age-Festival II".

Beginning 2oo8, there was another gig in Halle's Rockstation before Dirot [former Lament] came to us. He accompanied the band on keys in Bad Lausick for the first time and became a solid member in April. Unfortunately, Knüpfi left the band in May to spend his time in a new musical project. Since June 2oo8, the very talented Yeti [former Semper Talis] supports us on drums.

First appearances in this lineup took place in Spring 2oo9 in Leipzig's Gieszer16 and in Halle's VL. In May, a first longplayer was released named a gleam of aberration with the complete work of the last two years. Despite all ups and downs, every song was finally captured. Three of them may be downloaded for free. This interview could be read in June in a local newspaper:

Summer 2oo9, R41 played in Moritzbastei and at Wave-Gotik-Treffen on May 2o1o. There, the Crescendo Moon EP was released for the first time. Its title song also appeared on Leipzig's compilation "popoolär!". Static Magazin Germany called us band of the month May 2o11 and the 7. Ton aired a special broadcast with an entire interview. "Earthquake" jumped straight onto number 1 of Radio Shadowplay's listener charts. Currently, new songs are created which will soon be heard.
